We arrived late the first day & staff let us in ourselves with clear guide. Managed to walk around Ipoh town that night and the old school vibe was amazing. If you want to walk to the tourist spots in town like Concubine lane or all the hipster cafes, this hotel is in the middle of it all. The hotel itself is a gem, the old building has been refurbished but still retains the air of antique. We had a lot of fun taking pics around the hotel itself. Even my small kids seem to enjoy especially climbing up the super high double decker bed 😅

Was there and booked two room, the attic and the other one is patio. I recommend the patio room cuz it was very nice, got a small balcony and very nice view. The attic also good but I personally prefer the patio room. Clean and comfy. Do not expect the mattress to be as 5 star hotel, it was good as its value. Very near to all tourist places. Highly recommend for solo traveler or group, but not family.

The location is great, near San Nai Lane and Er Nai Lane. It's easy to find parking and the surroundings of the room are quite clean. However, when we checked in, the receptionist was not at the counter, so we had to wait for a while. Therefore, if you want to check in, you need to contact their staff in advance. All the necessary amenities are provided, but it's a bit of a waste if you only go there to sleep. Next time, I will go with my friends and enjoy it more. 🤪
The absolute worst hotel experience of our lives”
I don't really know where to begin with this review. I rarely give bad reviews, but this stay has been absolutely traumatising for myself and my family. We’ve travelled and stayed in many places around Malaysia and SEA. This stay stands to be the worst hotel experience of our lives. Quite disappointing as this was our first time in Ipoh and we very much looking forward to it. I’ll break it down in points for future guests who may be interested in staying, spoilers; DONT. Extremely Late Check-In : My family arrived a little earlier at 1pm, and was welcomed to an empty reception counter. After ringing the bell for half an hour, there was still no staff in sight. We called the number on our booking and was told the check in was at 3pm, which was fine by us. We went sight seeing and came back at 3:30pm. Still no staff. Rang the bell for 20 minutes, finally a staff greeted us and was told the room was still not ready and had to wait another half an hour. We were only able to check in at 4pm plus. Lack of Staff: It took us little time to realise that the late check in was because there was only 1 staff doing EVERYTHING. He was the receptionist, he was house keeping, he was the maintenance guy. Extremely surprising on a public holiday weekend. Major Safety/Security Issue: My family and I had two separate bookings, my room was upstairs on the 3rd floor and my family’s was on the 2nd. Right after checking in, we realised that my room key was able to open my families room door, and vice versa. We weren’t able to test on other rooms, but we suspect that all the rooms use the exact same key. (Photos available), meaning, any guest from any room may be able to enter you room at any time. And keys are left at the counter after check out, so any Tom, Dick and Harry is able to access the rooms even without booking. The only thing stopping people from entering your room is a flimsy chain lock. We felt unsafe and uneasy our whole stay. Paper Thin Walls: We were able to hear the guests beside our room as though we were in the same room. The rooms are separated by a thin plaster wall, with enough effort, you could probably break through it with your bare hands. Rock Hard Beds: We honestly contemplated just sleeping in the car so we can just leave and get our refund. Sleeping on the floor seemed to be a better option. The beds are unnecessarily hard. Air Conditioning Unit Blowing Hot Air: We left the air conditioning on for 2 hours while we went for our dinner and came back with the room hotter than when we left. The poor receptionist/room keeper/maintenance guy spent almost an hour fixing my air conditioning unit (Photos available). During this time, we called the hotel supervisor/manager(?) to request for a different room and was completely ignored. We left no less than 15 miss calls. A hotel that isn’t able to provide something as basic as a working air conditioning unit should probably cease operations. Incompetent Management: As mentioned before, if you are expecting decent customer service, you came to the wrong place. There seems to be only 1 person to call, a Peter Lee who doesn’t seem to bother picking up the phone past his bedtime. The management leaves you to your own device. Honestly disgustingly lazy, incompetent and rude customer service from the management. Luckily the receptionist/housekeeper/maintenance guy was very nice and helpful. He tried his best despite no support from management. All in all, the hotel was very pretty. But not worth the nightmare we went through. If you have the option to book a room here or sleep in your car, I suggest just sleeping in the car. I see potential in this location but it requires some huge management and facilities (Door locks, air conditioning, beds, etc) changes. This hotel left us neither happy or felt like a retreat. Steer clear of the Depressing 8 at all costs.
