My partner and I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Papa Whale during our trip to Taiwan. From the start, the service was thoughtful—they allowed us to store our luggage before check-in, which gave us time to explore the area without worry. The location is very convenient—just a few kilometers from Ximending and Ximen MRT Station, making it easy to get around. It was also close to the Hello Kitty-themed 7-Eleven. Our room was spacious enough for two, very clean, and the bathroom was modern and nicely designed. Daily housekeeping kept everything spotless, and we appreciated having a safety box and a hair blower in the room. One thing we did miss was a bidet, which would have been a nice addition. Breakfast was definitely a highlight. It’s included in the stay, and we were pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of delicious food—perfect for starting the day. The free candies at reception were a cute touch we both enjoyed. Overall, we found Hotel Papa Whale to be a great choice —comfortable, convenient, and full of little details that made our stay feel special. The lobby was very aesthetic. Great service and room clean-up. The rooms are great and spacious. Generally quite clean. They have very chic and cosy decor aesthetic. Main draw point would be the accessibility, price and the staff service. Some rooms do not have windows and that was a great thing because that means one can sleep in complete darkness. The beds were comfy and i had great sleep during my stay here. My only gribe would be that the room wifi at the basement was very weak and intermittent (my room was in the corner so i guess it can't be helped). Another small issue would be that the doors are not very sound proof. We could hear kids and other guests talking loudly along the hallway and lify lobby. However, a simple call to the reception addressed this promptly. All in all, a very good value for money hotel that i think i would definitely consider coming back again next time. Thanks!

Our Stay at Hotel Papa Whale – A Hidden Gem in Ximending During our recent 5-day trip to Taiwan, we stayed at Hotel Papa Whale, and I have to say—it exceeded our expectations in so many ways! If you're looking for a stylish, comfortable, and conveniently located hotel in Taipei, this is definitely a great choice. First Impressions & Location When we first arrived, we were immediately struck by the hotel’s unique industrial-chic design. The entrance is tucked away in a small alley, which at first made us wonder if we were in the right place. But once inside, the vibe was completely different—modern, artsy, and full of character. The check-in process was smooth, and the staff was friendly and helpful. One of the biggest perks of staying here is the location. The hotel is just a short walk (around 7-10 minutes) to Ximen MRT Station, making it super easy to explore Taipei. Plus, it’s right near the lively Ximending shopping district, where you can find tons of street food, shopping, and entertainment. We loved being able to walk around at night and soak up the energy of the area. Our Room – Clean & Cozy We booked an Elegant Double Room, and while it wasn’t huge, it was squeaky clean and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless, with good water pressure in the shower. The decor kept up with the hotel’s industrial theme—dark, stylish, and minimalistic. One thing to note is that some rooms don’t have windows, so if you prefer natural light, it’s worth checking before booking. Breakfast – A Pleasant Surprise! We absolutely loved the breakfast buffet at Hotel Papa Whale! It was surprisingly good, with a mix of Western and Asian options. The highlight for us? The hotpot! We’ve never had hotpot for breakfast before, but it was such a cool experience. It was warm, flavorful, and a perfect way to start our mornings before heading out for the day. Aside from the hotpot, they also had eggs, toast, fruits, and some local dishes. Everything was fresh and delicious, and it definitely gave us enough energy for our daily adventures. Other Highlights Fast Wi-Fi – We had no issues staying connected, even while streaming videos. Cool Lounge Area – The lobby and lounge area had a stylish, almost vintage feel, with plenty of seating. It was a nice spot to relax. Affordable Price – For the quality and location, Hotel Papa Whale is a great value. A Few Things to Keep in Mind Rooms can be small – If you have a lot of luggage, it might feel a bit tight. No Windows in Some Rooms – This wasn’t an issue for us, but if you prefer natural light, make sure to book a room with a window. A Bit Hidden – The entrance is in an alley, so it might take a moment to find the first time. Final Thoughts – Would We Stay Again? Absolutely! Hotel Papa Whale has a great combination of style, cleanliness, and location, making it an awesome choice for travelers. We loved the unique design, the delicious breakfast, and the convenience of being near Ximending.
