    “One Night Stay”

This place has been renovated since I last stayed here in February 2024. It looks immaculate and is very clean and chic. I wish they hadn’t got rid of the TV room. I encourage them to bring it back but with strict rules on its use so that individuals and couples don’t feel the urge to monopolize the space. The staff should encourage everyone to share and welcome others into the space so they can meet someone new. My four person all male room was awesome, the bed was firm, the sheets were clean, and the bathroom/shower was nice and clean. I loved this place!

    “First time hostel experience”

Good experience overall. Really good value; lots of amenities for a relatively low price. Location was very centralized; heart of downtown and just a few minutes from the airport, train depot, and bus station. Many points of interest are within easy walking distance, as well as shopping, dining, and nightlife. And lots of nearby public transportation options for the places that are not. Check-in was easy, quick, and no surprise fees, unreasonable deposits, or specific credit/debit card requirements. This was a big deal for me personally, having very recently been, quite frankly - conned, thoroughly humiliated, and my vacation ruined by such issues at a much larger hotel in a well-known desert tourist destination. Dorm room was spacious and clean, as was the bunk bed and provided pillows and linens. Toilet/shower was decent, but shower door was old and failing; kept falling off the track when closing or opening. Plenty of hot water and pressure though; big plus!!! It definitely made the rickety shower door less of a concern. There was also a laundry room on site; two coin-op washers and dryers ($1 each per load), and a free iron and ironing board to use as well. Didn’t use the iron, but the machines worked well and the $1 was enough to dry all my clothes thoroughly. The kitchen was large, well equipped, and available for guest use, including a full size refrigerator for guests to keep personal food and two large ranges for cooking (you have to wash the dishes/utensils you use yourself). A basic yet filling continental-style breakfast was included in the room rate. Bagels, oatmeal, and fresh fruit, as well as coffee, tea, juice, and condiments; all self-serve and complimentary. There is a game room for guests with a full size pool table, a few chairs and sofas, and a couple classic arcade-style video games to boot. On the weekends they host a welcome party for guests to meet other guests and socialize. They also offer a few other social activities; like a walking tour of historic places nearby, and a pub crawl through the surrounding entertainment district. Only real complaints were that the bunk bed mattress was not particularly comfortable (plastic-covered and not very breathable, also pretty thin and no box spring - I could feel the bunk’s metal support beams through the mattress - like a pull out sofa bed) and the lack of a room deodorizer/air freshener or the ability to open a window to air out the less pleasant odors contributed by at least one fellow guest with somewhat different hygiene standards than most. Lastly, an FYI... As convenient as its central location can be, it can also be quite loud; especially at night late in the week next to all the bars, nightclubs, and people out and about about until 2-3 am. Could be an issue if you’re a light sleeper or need to go to bed early to get up early. Also, the ever present CA homelessness crisis is obvious and unavoidable, especially downtown. Not to take swipes at the homeless, but be prepared to possibly experience: incoherent monologuing, aggressive panhandling, sidewalk sleeping, drunk slumping, and physics-defying, drug-induced stupor slouching. Despite the handful of issues I mentioned, I had a pleasant stay in a nice location with great amenities for an affordable price. Will likely book again when in SD, and would definitely recommend to others.
