    “Really nice ryokan”

The place is really nice, clean, and comfortable enough. Price is average. It doesn't have much more than a lounge area (no gardens or massage/relax area which are common in other ryokans) but it does have a private onsen that you can rent at a reasonable price, besides de usual public one. Note that it's located top of the hill, so you do have to walk 2 or 3 blocks uphill, or get a taxi to get there. Might not be ideal for older people or people with reduced mobility. The staff is nice and speak English. However, if you want to eat a meal at the restaurant you need to reserve a day in advance and they don't explain this to you unless you ask. If you ask the same day, like I did, you will have to look for something near the station (most restaurants close at 8 pm, which is unfortunate).

“Really nice hotel. Very quite a short walk to Hakone Village”

Clean quite hotel well positioned to get around all the sights. Hakone Village itself closes at 7pm so be prepared for that. There are a few small supermarkets where you can buy food. The Private Onsen at the hotel is good.
