Every time I visit Pontianak, I always stay at Garuda Hotel, whether by myself or with my wife, because the rooms are clean and the service is good and friendly.
The location is very strategic. The room is spacious and complete, but the lighting is not bright enough. The TV only has 2 channels and is still not a Smart TV. Cleanliness can be improved. Amenities and bathroom facilities are complete. The furniture in the room is a bit "old" but all functions well; it would be suggested to update it to make it cooler. There are many paid food and drink options available in the room (snacks, instant noodles, various soft drinks). Therefore, guests are charged a deposit of Rp. 200,000 upon check-in. Breakfast has many choices/variations, but the taste of the fried rice and side dishes could be improved, it’s already quite decent. Thank you Garuda Hotel and Agoda.
A sudden business trip to Pontianak made me have to book a hotel last minute, many hotels were already fully booked. Fortunately, I got the Garuda hotel at a cheap price for a Deluxe room. The facilities in the room are quite complete and good. The bed and pillows are soft and comfortable for resting. The bed sheets and pillowcases also smell nice, good! There was a minor issue with the TV, which had poor picture quality and only 2 channels available. This TV is not a Smart TV. The Wi-Fi is quite fast and smooth. The furniture in the room is a bit old and needs refreshing. Cleanliness could also be improved, although it is already quite good. The check-in and check-out process is quick. There is a deposit of Rp. 200,000,- because there are food and drinks available in the room, as well as a fridge, which can be consumed for a fee. The room's lighting is too dim, not bright enough in my opinion, but for resting, this dim lighting is just right. The breakfast is quite varied, with many options. However, the taste of the food could still be improved, it’s not really delicious. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my stay at Garuda Hotel, considering its very affordable price. As the oldest hotel in Pontianak, it seems to be falling behind in terms of updates compared to other competing hotels. So far, it’s decent for me. Some front office staff are friendly while others are a bit grumpy. The grumpy ones only greet regular hotel customers they already know. However, the friendly ones (mostly the younger staff) are very helpful. The cleanliness of the hotel, from the lobby chairs to the room curtains and the sides of the beds and corridor areas on each floor, needs improvement. There's a lot of dust, and I couldn't stop sneezing on the first night. The glasses, drinking bottles, and kettles in the room should be replaced as they look very old. The bathroom needs to consider a different concept. Sorry, but the bathroom floor is ceramic, not suitable for a bathroom, and it’s flat all around. So, when the floor gets wet, it becomes very slippery. The risk of falling in the bathroom for customers is very high. Every shower, I have to be very careful. Please, since you are renovating all the bathrooms in all the rooms, please renovate them as well. I booked a non-smoking room but was given a smoking room, so I have to ask for air freshener and chemical neutralizer every day. The staff stated that the non-smoking rooms were full. I don't smoke, that's why. So far, the WiFi and Telkomsel and IM3 network are pretty good. The parking space here is not very spacious for those with cars and motorcycles. Staying here is still worth it. Because the access to the city center is excellent and opposite the Damri office for those wanting to continue to Malaysia and Brunei. For me, this hotel is 3.5/5.
