Pyin Oo Lwin hotels & places to stay

We booked Hotel Pyin Oo Lwin for a two-night rest break during our 26-day independent tour of Myanmar, and were thoroughly delighted with it. Our bungalow was spacious and spotlessly clean, with a huge bed, dressing room, bath, shower, toilet, and front balcony where we could sit and read. The restaurant was excellent, and our two breakfasts and two dinners there were delicious. We sampled the Myanmar and Shan speciality menu - ask for this, as they don’t always hand it out. All the staff were excellent, most especially the chef, who was brilliant. Top location, right by Kandawgyi National Botanic Gardens. An easy stroll of 8 minutes to the main gate, but you can exit at the north gate which comes out opposite the hotel. Be sure to visit the Takin, and you may be able to feed the female, as we were. The huge males are way too scary! Value was very good, 4 stars, really closer to 4½. We would thoroughly recommend the hotel, and would certainly come back if we ever revisit Pyin Oo Lwin.

This was on my way back to Pyin Oo Lwin, having stayed there before but in a different hotel. The Royal Park View is nicely located between the town center and the Botanical Garden and both can be reached easily by bicycle. There are also a couple of good places to eat close by so no need to go to the main part of town every time you want to have lunch or dinner. I booked a standard room but on arrival they gave me a deluxe room and even let me stay two additional nights for the price of the standard (it was low season but still very kind). The room was large and comfortable with a little back yard and a seating area. I especially loved the dark wood floors and the comfy queen bed. Yes, admittedly, it's not the most modern or new hotel but it was all very nice, clean and welcoming. The staff went out of their way to help with everything you asked them; bikes, onward transportation, trip organizing. Also, the day staff at reception seems to be the management and clearly in charge (things get done). The breakfast buffet is huge and offers Asian, Myanmar and Western dishes. The bicycles they rent are actually good ones, with working gears, light and non-screeching breaks. I can totally recommend this place.

This was a funny one. Booked it because we were tired of hostels - in Burma it's basically backpacker hostels or big weird military owned hotels, so it was nice to see some boutique hotels in Pyin Oo Lwin. Looked like a lovely place with a little hotspring bath, and no backpackers! Arrived to an almost empty hotel, but an incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Felt like royalty arriving in the taxi, staff came out and lined up to open doors and take bags. We were greeted by the manager, John, who (long story short) turned out to be the most interesting and friendly hotel manager I've ever met. Sat down with John for hours over the course of 3-ish days that we were there, just chatting about the history of Pyin Oo Lwin, Shan state, and the rest of Burma. A wonderfully caring man, always asking about our lives as well. Also hooked us up with a free, impromptu coffee producer tour! Loved this place, and loved John. Hope to see you again John!

We stayed 1 night in this wonderful hotel (would have been nice if we have few more extra days in town). We had fun at the karaoke in the basement and also ordered local dishes and spaghetti which kids enjoyed. Breakfast was lovely at the roof top restaurant. Rooms are very good size and clean, staffs are such wonderful always ready to help. We would definitely stay here again. And the hotel also gave us 20% discount in the additional room we took, made our day better.

Awesome. Hands down best hotel you can stay at in Pyin oo Lwin. Yes, you can pay way more at other places but, this place has it all or better for less. The staff goes out of their way to make sure you're comfortable and taken care of. The place is immaculate and very elegant. The owner hangs out around the hotel and is the friendliest guy you'd ever meet. The hotel is located out of the main street which makes it quieter yet, a short walk to all the shops and restaurants. Totally recommend Royal Jasmine Hotel.

A good hotel with staff that are eager to please. English communication was quite difficult but we eventually got there and we had everything that we needed. The hotel is in a great location between town and the beautiful botanical gardens and you can borrow bicycles or rent motorbikes (be careful on these though). The rooms are incredibly spacious and comfortable and the shower is great. Breakfast is served on a nice roof terrace but unfortunately the staff did not ask us what we wanted to eat before we were given food. This was quite annoying because I was served bread with my meal and then had a bit of trouble explaining I wanted rice instead. One other final comment is that the rooms should have been made up each day, or at least fresh water provided. We were received it once we asked though. Apart from this small things the hotel is a great place from which to explore Pyin Oo Lwin.

It was a great time for us. When we arrived early,the manager arranged a room for us to rest temporarily. The lady who made breakfast is also a nice lady and we liked mont hin ghar. They helped us to get a van to visit around. All the things are perfect. They contacted one of the car agent called cherry may to go down to mandalay city. We booked a private van. But when van came,we have to share with 2 other passengers. The driver seems he wanted extra money from foreigners(2000kyats extra for being a foreigner). We really appretiate for the perspect of hotel. We had memorable time in pyin oo lwin.

The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the centre roundabout, but you can cycle as well or take a taxi. if you like walking also the gardens are doable (use the back gate). The room is unbelievable; very large and luxurous. I think we must have had 60 m2 or so. We stayed two nights, which gave us one day to see Pyin Oo Lwin and this was enough for us. The gardens is the most attractive part, although in March the orchids were all finished. But still worth a visit. We had a film night outside, which is normally inside. It became too cold in the evening and although there were blankets, we did not finish viewing the film. Be careful, the film is free, but you have to pay for the food and drinks, which are slightly more expensive than in other places. You specifically have to ask for cold beer, otherwise it's warm. But, we definitely would go there again without thinking, if we would ever visit Pyin Oo Lwin again. Recommended with nearly highest score.

Initially I was annoyed as this hotel is not in Mandalay it is in Pyin Oo lwin but upon arrival I was very happy. After 6 nights of expensive, substandard accommodation I finally found a good hotel in Myanmar, worth every cent I paid. The room was big, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great and delivered to my room. The staff were very helpful. I couldn't recommend this hotel more.

We were on few days trip to Pyin Oo Lwin for flower festival and Hotel Aster was recommended by a friend. The hotel is on Mandalay-Lashio rd about 10 minutes drive from the city centre. (Keep in mind Pyin Oo Lwin is a small city and the location does not bother us). Most of the attractions and activities are out of town. Its best value for money, a lot cheaper than its competitors. But really clean and every type of rooms are specious compare to other hotels I stayed during my trip. The hotel has beautiful landscaping and water fountain. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great. As soon as you leave the room, the staffs came for cleaning my room and they changed all the bed sheets, towels every morning which most hotel does not do. The hotel provided with most things I needed in the room and complimentary bottled water. Overall, I enjoyed staying and would surely stay again at Hotel Aster. I would certainly recommend for you to stay.

The hotel was clean, safe and quiet. Unfortunately, the staff were unable to communicate in English (if you know Chinese you might be able to get help from one of the staffers.) So I was unable to get help with booking train tickets the next day, it was also a bit difficult to get around Pyin Oo Lwin from the location, the horse and carriage was about $10 US I think. The pool looked nice but it was not filled during the winter months. The internet was rather fast, mostly because Pyin Oo Lwin is a military city. Go see the botanical gardens!

My stay at Sagawar was legitimately one of the highlights of my entire trip. The hotel is nice and reasonably priced for the area, but the staff is amazing. The location is remote as another reviewer said, so you should think of this more like a homestay, living in a local area (but sleeping in a nice hotel). The owner's son drove me to his favorite restaurant and I feasted on a table full of excellent food for next to nothing. Then he took me to my train the next morning and, finding out that it was late, brought me a care package from his mom with goodies for the train. Then he took me to tea and insisted on paying! This is not for picky travelers but if you want a homestay type of experience while still getting your own nice hotel room this place is definitely for you.

Once I came, check in was smooth, room wasn't ready but I kept my luggage in reception and went sightseeing, they discussed cheaper price for me with motorbike taxi. Once I came back I found all my bags were in the room already. I found it be clean and quite good, still basic. After a while I wanted to go for dinner, but couldn't get the good price from motorbike taxi, in the end the manager of hotel drove me to the restaurant and then when I finished meal even came to pick me up. He even didn't want to take the money for the ride, still I payed the fair price. For this reason I highlight this hotel as very good....not excellent because the other day I went to Inle Lake through Mandalay. Only minus here was that they didn't have time to prepare breakfast (dont know why, i tried to ask for it in advance). Only gave 2 toasts with jam in lunch box. Though even I had to wait for it for a while.

Terrible. Room was dirty, dusty and covered in rat droppings. The bathroom was coated in someone's hair and there was a very suspicious stain on my bed sheet. Asked for the room to be cleaned, but when we returned later it hadn't been done. Got moved to another room. Staff were clueless and didn't speak any English. Just 5/6 young guys sat around reception fiddling with their phones. I know in Myanmar you shouldn't expect everyone to speak English, but when the English speaking owner just sits in the liquor shop next door while you vainly try to explain your problems to one of the clueless staff it's very frustrating. Also breakfast was said to be included but wasn't. Owner didn't care at all when we mentioned it. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Firstly ,all the staffs including owner are Super friendly and nice. Secondly they offer the best service and try their best to confront their customer. Lastly , if you have inquiries ,just ask them because they are willing to help you out as much as they can! During our stay,we had some problems with the bus ticket ,so my Burmese travel mate told them as if there're any possibilities for us,then they all started trying their best. Yes,because of their hardwork help,we had a chance not only to Inle on time but to Gokteik viaduct on that day . That's not all, after it we had a chance to explore around Mandalay before the bus departed. Of course it was all because of thanks to them! We really appreciate that! If you are looking for a decent place with reasonable price to stay in Pyin Oo Lwin,then I'd recommend this one for sure,peeps!

When we arrived there were no electricity (they said that it will be ok at 4pm, in reality 6pm). Hot water is just warm - no problem, but the pressure is very soft, so had to shower by letting the water down. Boss booked us a shared taxi for 2:30pm. No taxi insight until 3:30pm. They send the boy out to get another taxi, taxi arrived at 4pm, we had to tell driver to quickly find other passengers otherwise we will be late for our bus. We had to accept the driver, driving like mad man for 1.5hours. Staff doesnt speak english. Aircon in the room doesnt work. TV only has 2 Burmese channel. To dusty to let the window open so we slept with the fan on. Breakfast consist of a cold fried egg, a few dry white bread with a spoon of strawberry jam. No tea, only instant coffee is available.

This is a resort style hotel, which is off the main roads and fairly quiet. The best thing about the property is the staff. They have an excellent balance of speed and service, without being bothersome. The rooms are in a number of 2 unit buildings, and they are absolutely huge. The owner is a hard-working and ambitious woman who speaks English well, and Japanese fluently. The grounds are well kept. They have a couple of bicycles that are free to use. I definitely recommend it. The one thing that should be pointed out is that Agoda locates the hotel near the train station, but this is quite on the other side of town, about 10 minutes east (walking) of Kandawlay Lake and not too far from the botanical gardens. Perhaps the hotel can attach an image of a map. I hope to have reason to return to Pyin Oo Lwin in order to stay at this hotel again.
