Very beautiful place to spend a couple of nights. Take your hiking shoes as this is a great place for taking forest walks. The staff can easily arrange. The sunset walk is a must. Bring your mosquito repellent and a battery powered light source of you need light in your room during the day, power only comes on 6pm-6am.
We arrived in Pyay late in th evening and most hotels were already booked. Hotel Nawaday was not our first choice but we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms are nothing special and could have been cleaner but the bed was comfy and the surroundings quiet. The breakfast was delicious. Having read other review's wasn't sure what to expect, the hotel is located about 3 km from town about 500 m down a side road. The rooms are big and spacious and reasonabley clean. A very quiet location. The breakfast is a bit hit and miss, after cold friend eggs we asked for omelette. The local breakfast looked OK . Others have made a comment about smells in the bathr...
If you like dirty rooms then this is the right place to be. The ask way to much for the rooms. The staff is really helpful, but maybe they have to pay more attention about cleaning the rooms. Full of insects and loads of mosquitoes.
Nice, clean and comfortable hotel. A bit out of town, but the distance can be walked (20 mins to the big sitting Buddha). Helpful staff. Sweet house beer station, and MZ RiCe and chicken restaurant opposite. Super cheap. MZ is a really nice guy.

Tourism is yet to catch up with Pyay, although not a lot to see it takes time as all sights are a long way out or apart, the country side is fascinating with any bullock Drays and people working the land in traditional methods again using bullocks.
If you would like to see Myanmar way of life and discover the very old ruin by sitting on the ox-cart which is nearby Pyay to be back to the ancient past.
A friendly town with some fantastic sights, particularly the Shwezagon Pagoda, and a good location beside the Irrawaddy.
